Head of the Vaccine Preventable Disease Division under the Ministry of Health, Dr Kongxay Phounphenghack, said the existing vaccination certificates are written in Lao. But certificates written in English will enable people to travel to other countries and show a universally acceptable document, which many countries now require.

The centre will provide English language certificates only after applicants have shown they have the appropriate travel documents and been authorized to travel by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Travelers must also comply with the rules of other countries regarding Covid-19 prevention and control measures.

Although the number of new cases has declined in recent weeks, Laos is still struggling to contain the spread of the virus. Health officials are accelerating efforts to trace infected people by collecting more samples from people in at-risk locations, particularly Thongkhankham market.
