The government of Vientiane province on April 13 announced a request for New Year festivals in the area to be held in accordance with traditional rituals, while banning crowd gathering or partying activities.
The government of Vientiane province also prohibited concerts in public areas, temporarily closing entertainment venues, karaoke, and restaurants during April.
Meanwhile, Tonpheung district, Bokeo province, northern Laos also prohibited border localities from traveling by boat on the Mekong River to avoid illegal entry from Thailand, which received serious epidemic in April.
In a similar move, the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports on April 13 also asked teachers and students at schools to strictly enforce the government’s regulations on disease prevention. Vientiane people are advised not to move to another locality if it is not needed. The Ministry of Education and Sports also promoted online working, teaching and learning.
Previously, local authorities in the capital Vientiane said that 6 people who entered illegally from Thailand presented themselves for medical screening and concentrated isolation. They also warned those who committed similar acts but failed to report would face severe penalties.
Laos currently records a total 53 cases of Covid-19 infections since the beginning of the epidemic, with no deaths, 4 of which are being treated in Vientiane and Champasak.
