McKinsey & Company is an American management consulting firm, founded in 1926 by James O. McKinsey—a University of Chicago professor—that provides advice on strategic management to corporations, governments and other organizations, and has become the "biggest pure consulting firm in the world".

Over the years, the firm has been restructured several times.

McKinsey & Company provides strategy and management consulting services, such as providing advice on an acquisition, developing a plan to restructure a sales force, creating a new business strategy or providing advice on downsizing.

 

McKinsey consultants designed and implemented studies to evaluate management decisions using data and interviews to test hypotheses, which were then presented to senior management, typically in a PowerPoint presentation and a booklet.

According to a December 2019 Forbes profile, McKinsey & Company had sales of $10.5 billion, 27,000 employees, and "over 100 offices in over 50 countries.
