Growing your own produce at home is a rewarding experience with the added benefit of producing fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs that are healthy, clean and pesticide-free. However, starting your own indoor garden can definitely be challenging. SeedLab intents to change this with Herbitat – a beautiful, soil-less home farming system with smart features to help families grow their own produce all year round with minimal effort.

"We started with one goal in mind, making home farming incredibly easy and accessible to everyone" – Andrew, SeedLab CTO and co-founder.

All kinds of produce such as leafy greens, herbs and fruits can be grown inside Herbitat, thanks to an easy-to-use design with detachable grow pods for easy cleaning, planting and harvesting. It also has a smart controller that helps aspiring home farmers optimize growing conditions for different types of plants. The embedded microcontroller works hand-in-hand with a hydroponic nutrient film technique (NFT) grow system to ensure an abundant supply of water, oxygen, and nutrients to plant roots – resulting in faster growth and healthier plants.

Light is another important factor to grow healthy plants successfully. Certain plants require a longer day length, while others may require a very high light intensity. Herbitat includes 4 rows of LED grow lights with a deliberately chosen spectrum to stimulate growth via photosynthesis. Light intensity and duration can be set individually for each row so that all types of plants can thrive.

All this is controllable from the Herbitat app. The app also works as a dashboard to monitor sensor data (nutrients, water, temperature) and will alert users when action is needed – like refilling the water tank or adding nutrients. Since Herbitat is WiFi enabled, it works anywhere in the world as long as your device is connected to the internet.

Elegantly crafted for modern interiors, Herbitat features a clean, minimalistic design that creates a beautiful backdrop for plants to stand out. The organic blend of colors, earthy scent of fresh herbs, and calming sounds of cascading water combine to create a beautiful, nature-inspired art piece.
