Professor Duong Quang Trung was born and raised in Hoi An (Quang Nam). After graduating from the University of Science and Technology (National University of Ho Chi Minh City), he received a full scholarship for a master’s degree from the Korean Government and a full scholarship for a doctorate in Sweden.

In early 2013, he was admitted to the professorship of Queen’s University Belfast – among the top 20 universities in the UK – without having to go through the PostDoc period. In August 2020, he was appointed a full professor at Queen’s University Belfast, one of the fastest appointments in the nearly 200-year history of the university.

Especially in 2020, the Royal Society of Science and Technology appointed 4 Research Chairs and 2 Senior Research Fellows at universities across the UK, and Professor Duong Quang Trung was appointed to the position of Research Chair on the issue of 6G telecommunications networks.

During his research, the professor has been awarded the Best Paper Awards 3 times at the IEEE GLOBECOM conference, the first time in 2016 in Washington DC, USA, the second time in 2019 in Hawaii, USA.

Recently, the third time the professor received this honor was at the IEEE GLOBECOM 2022 conference, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with two research projects on 6G networks: “An Unsupervised Learning Approach for Spectrum Allocation in Terahertz Communication Systems” and “Real-time Optimal Multibeam and Power Allocation in 5G Satellite–Terrestrial IoT Networks”.

GLOBECOM is the largest conference of the telecommunications industry with a history of over 65 years, normally every year there are about 3,000 research projects registered to submit and only about 35% of the works are accepted to be published and presented at conference. Especially this year, only 16 papers were selected as Best Paper Awards out of a total of over 1,100 accepted papers, and 2 out of 16 awarded papers belonged to Professor Duong Quang Trung.
