The participants will discuss the strengthening of cooperation to jointly eliminate false information in society and preserve the value of journalism.

The forum will be held as a side event of the 13th Asia-Europe Summit to be hosted by Cambodia later this year.

Meas Sophorn, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, said that the agenda on fighting against fake news is made upon the agreement from the member countries.

The 10th Editors’ Forum in 2021 will be attended by well-known editors from 26 countries, including 13 from Asia and 13 from Europe, to discuss the elimination of false information in society, particularly in social media and maintain the value of journalism, he added.

“Editors will discuss all aspects of the global media situation to effectively combat false information,” Sophorn said.

“There are three main purposes of organizing the Editors’ forum: First, to promote dialogue and build relations between the Association of Asian and European Journalists; second, to raise awareness of the progress of the Asia-Europe Summit among the editors-in-chief of Asia-Europe member countries; and third, to find trends in reporting on Asia-Europe relations and issues related to Asia-Europe cooperation,” he said.

The agenda is fixed to the situation in Cambodia as the Ministry of Information is working to enhance professional journalism.
